What I am Looking For

  • Work ethic, effort, intensity, coachability
  • Team player and positive attitude

Coaching Philosophy

My name is Andre LAbbe and I am the Ancaster Avalanche U13A Head Coach. I just want to introduce myself, I have been coaching U13BB/B Girls hockey for the past 3 years. I have played my minor hockey in the hamilton area and my junior hockey in Dundas and St. George. My philosophy focuses on assessing and educating each player to make them the best they can be both as players and as a team. I focus on the player as a whole person, with their own unique personality, and learning style. My focus is to develop all the players in their individual skills such as skating, passing, shooting,  angles, etc. Also teach them how to play as a team by getting them to understand the game of hockey and how to play in all three zones. I develop each player by first giving them different skill-based tasks to see what they need to work on. I also get to know each player and how they can be best taught by building a positive, professional relationship. I focus on many important basic fundamental skills and scaffold skills and drills into more complex concepts.  I differentiate drills to meet each player's unique needs and design drills by continually assessing where they are, and what their next steps are.

Team Rules

  • Attend practices and games regularly.  If your daughter is going to be absent, COMMUNICATION IS KEY. I completely understand that important life events happen - just keep me informed!
  • Coaches expect that each player will take responsibility for their own conduct and represent Ancaster and the Ancaster Avalanche organization in an honourable way (more specific information is included in the Player Agreement to be signed once offered a position on the U13A Team).
  • Players are required to have a black helmet, gloves and pants (or black pant shells)
  • Profanity and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated
  • No cell phones/image taking devices will be permitted in the dressing room
  • For the safety of all players, team staff will abide by the 2-deep rule in situations where the players are present.
  • Further detailed information will be communicated at our Parent Meeting

Discipline Policy

  • Failure to abide by team rules will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and could include the following:  verbal warning from coaches, verbal warning with player and parents, missed shifts/periods/games, released from the team.
  • It is important that our hockey team remains a top priority.
  • Specifically, missing games/practices without notice will require the player to attend, but not play the next game.
  • Players who repeatedly miss hockey sessions will face stiffer consequences each time which could ultimately result in removal from the team.

Proposed Fundraisers

  • We will be looking at completing several fundraiser to reduce the overall costs

Tournaments

  • We will be going into 5 tournaments. With 2 being away which will require a hotel stay and the other 3 will be local.
