Coaching Objectives

Emphasize the importance of hard work and team play while having fun, by creating a family atmosphere with open dialogue offering constant feedback and ongoing evaluation.

Coaches Philosophy

We prioritize work ethic and an insatiable desire to compete - this trait is a pre-requisite for all practices and games and is what is expected at all times.

The 2017-18 Ancaster Avalanche Midget AA team will play a fast, high-tempo game.
An offensive team w/clear decision making /systems, high pressure fore-check, team speed & puck control/possession
We build from the D out with a heavy onus on puck possession, balance decisions and puck patience.-Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
The selected players will be given a playbook to review over the summer.
Every game will be recorded and available on Coaches Eye for the players/parents to view. Coaches Eye will also be used as a teaching tool where applicable.
Team Plan and the Rep Commitment:

Selected players will be expected to make a strong commitment to this team
The following will be a part of our team plan for the 17-18 season:

Dryland Training: Summer (independent and Professional training sessions) and In-season
Practice Sessions (on-ice) - weekly June, August - twice weekly (min) in-season
Player and Goalie Development sessions
Pre-Season Camp - Late August, Full day participation
University Showcase Tournaments and USA College/University Tour
Stoney Creek Showcase
Two Nations Cup - Detroit
Two Nations Cup - Brampton
US University Tour - New York State
Bus Tour for campus visits, practice and exhibition games
Proposed visits to Colgate, Cornell and Syracuse - itinerary subject to change based on availability
One to two additional tournaments to be added pending weight of schedule
Financial Obligations - Team Budget

Association Registration Fees: $510 (approximately, based on 16/17 fees)
Due to AAGHA by May 15th
Team Budget: approximately $3000 per player (draft budget to be provided at tryouts
To be paid in 6 installments (May 30 - Oct 30) by postdated cheque

All team expenses and revenue will be accurately accounted. Year end statements will be made available for team members
Team Fundraising and Sponsorships will be solicited to help offset costs.

Brad Smith is excited to be involved in the continued growth of the Ancaster AA program and is looking forward to a competitive 2017/18 season.

Brad has been involved both regionally and provincially in multiple sports both as a player and coach.

Over the last 14 years he has coached both Girls AA Hockey and Boys AA Hockey teams that have competed and won several tournaments and championships.

The Ancaster Midget AA staff will emphasize the importance of hard work and team play by creating a family atmosphere with open dialog offering constant feedback and ongoing evaluation.

Brad's commitment to this team and the program that will be implemented, will ensure that these high level athletes have every resource available to them to excel and reach the fullest of their potential both on and off the ice.
