Development Stream (DS) is a program run by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association. It is a subset of the house league (HL) program offering an enhanced opportunity for AAGHA HL players who are looking for more development and an option to play more hockey. DS also provides the potential to stream toward competitive (rep.) hockey in the future. It is ideal for HL players who are not ready or cannot make the commitment of playing competitive hockey, but are looking for more than the HL program offers.
In accordance with OWHA rules, DS teams and are permitted to play in a maximum of three tournaments and eight exhibition games against other DS teams. The teams will practice on a regular basis and operate separately from the HL teams. There are no league games for DS.
Players on a DS team must also fully participate with their current AAGHA HL team, the player’s HL team is the first priority.
The DS program provides a substantial increase in ice time and skill development while competing at a higher level.
Girls are chosen for the DS team based on the recommendations of their HL coaches. The DS coach with final approval from the DS convenor will form a team. An attempt is made to ensure the HL teams are equally represented on the DS team. A tryout process may be instituted in exceptional circumstances only.
Depending on interest levels, we are anticipating DS teams at the Novice, Atom, Pee-wee and Bantam levels. There must be at least two teams within a division to for a DS team to be created.
